A few months ago Christina Burton, one of my fellow Howard Bison, gathered a small collective of fellow writers and journalists for a fun and informal project. She created the blog space The Greater Fools. The initial idea was for us to blow off steam on any topic we felt passionate about. It was a way for us to go rogue without the worry of being constantly politically correct or watered down. In other words, no hard core editor holding us back. However, with all of us being professional writers I pondered if it is possible for us to truly let go of the rules. Curious to see how far we could go with this I agreed to participate.
However, we haven’t really gone rogue…yet. In the few months we’ve been in existence and with everyone’s busy lives, we’ve managed to log a few posts. So far we’ve touched on a fairly decent variety of topics; including reflections on Christianity and spirituality which, according to Burton, sparks great numbers in page views. Hmmmm. We may be on to something. We still manage to be informative with a few topics that aren’t discussed much. My first post was about breaking up or disconnecting with a mentor when you’ve outgrown them. My second post was about the seriousness of street harassment and my experience with it. Just this past Friday my latest blog post was added; Frustrating Rest: Leaning How to Savor & Survive Rest Breaks.
We’re still revamping and morphing into a definitive style. We’re not a group that posts daily; though that might change depending on what our audience wants to see. We’re just a small bunch of cool writers and journalists that need a break from our usual writing duties from time to time and The Greater Fools is our playground.
Check us out and don’t forget to read my latest post for them. 🙂
