Happy James Patterson Day!

Yes, in a few minutes, D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray will proclaim November 4th James Patterson Day. The presentation will be held at Stuart-Hobson Middle School in Northeast.  The honor will be bestowed upon the acclaimed author because of his generous donation of books over the years to D.C. middle schools. The honor also recognizes Patterson’s work in crafting the fictional character Alex Cross and providing a positive landscape of the District while showcasing a positive image through Cross, an African-American character from D.C. and living in Anacostia.

Patterson also developed Read Kiddo Read, a website designed to connect parents and educators with age appropriate books for students. After learning a bit more about his work with encouraging kids to read, it doesn’t seem too far fetched now to learn that Patterson has written books for teens or young-adults.

I probably should be at Stuart-Hobson, in case Patterson is there in person, trying to score an interview with him. Yet I’m stuck at home doing much needed follow ups and writing. Trust me, I put this stuff off for a week and a half.  It needs to be done. I’m sure I’ll cross paths with Patterson and I will gush like a star-struck teenager. Once I’m over that, I’ll ask my questions. One of them being….how does he have such a strong connection to D.C. It’s so evident when you read anything from the Alex Cross series.

Here’s a bit more about Patterson and how he gets his work done.
