Whew! Your girl has been busy. So busy …. that for a moment, one assignment I’ve just completed drained me emotionally. I took a day to regroup. I’m better. Sorry, you’re going to have to wait a bit before I release details about that one. I will say in the end I felt very honored to have handle my part of the topic at hand. In the meantime, my second cover story for Monarch Magazine has finally been published.
The current issue (the music issue) of Monarch features not only my cover story on Faith Evans, but my feature with a few of the cast mates from TV One’s R&B Divas LA; Chante’ Moore, Michel’le, Dawn Robinson & Lil Mo. My article with Evans is all about how music is sacred to her and how she works to protect the authenticity of her art. She also talks a little bit about some behind the scenes madness to R&B Divas Atlanta and soul music intertwining with other genres. The weird thing is, in speaking with Evans it felt like we were familiar acquaintances. At the end of the interview she even asked if we’ve met before, because she felt like we had. She’s so down to earth and I love that. I also had the most fascinating time speaking with the ladies of R&B Divas LA. I have to say, hearing Michel’le’s voice through the phone threw me off for a bit. I totally had forgotten how squeaky her voice is, but her singing voice is a POWERFUL PUNCH! Not to mention, I spoke to her during the crazy time when people were reaching out to me about Michelle Obama. That day…yeah…crazy! Aside from some shared “secrets” about the show, a couple of them did hip me to some unknown facts; namely Dawn Robinson, formally of EnVogue. Did you know there is a song on EnVogue’s first album, Born To Sing, that was recorded raw as it was Dawn’s audition into the group? I bet you can’t figure out which song. I was totally shocked when she revealed it. It happens to be one of my favorites from that album. I can’t believe I was in grade school trying my best to sing my heart out to this song…in private….LOL.
I also did a write up on the ten must read music blogs. Right now, content on the website still reflects the last issue ( with my cover story on Brandy). I’ve been informed that a new web developer is on board and content to reflect the current issue should be posted in a few days. As always, you can subscribe to the magazine (print or digital version). But just in case, once the new content hits the website I will come back to point you in that direction. You know I wouldn’t leave you hanging like that.
