Last week was such a stressful and emotional roller coaster that I’m so glad it ended on a high note. So much so, I’m stretching out that note to kick off this week. On Friday EBONY.com (EBONY Magazine) posted my first story for them.

My article is on documentary photographer Karin Rodney-Haapala. Rodney-Haapala is a D. C. Native that is a Iraqi veteran who has post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). I was intrigued by her when I went to the Corcoran Gallery a few weeks ago. I was there to view one exhibit when I decided to view the Corcoran’s NEXT exhibit; where Rodney-Haapala’s work is displayed. Though Rodney-Haapala’s portion of the exhibit is very short, it packs a powerful sentiment as she puts her life, living with PTSD, on display. Almost immediately I reached out to her when I came home. I had to interview her. We met up a few days later and I had the most amazing conversation with her.

I’m so glad and honored to share her story and work on such a big platform. You can read my story here: The Anxious Life: A Rare Look at black Women and Combat PTSD.
