My cover story on Brandy in the spring issue of Monarch Magazine.

There comes a time in every writer or journalist’s life that a celebration is in order; even if it is nothing more than the writer, a bottle of wine and a few close friends toasting the occasion. For me, this informal and small celebration is for my cover story on singer/actress Brandy Norwood for Monarch Magazine. Granted this isn’t my first cover story. In 2001, I did a cover story for the local newspaper, The Common Denominator, on the end of the D.C. Financial Control Board. However, this one is more monumental. This is a national publication with a broader audience to boot.

Also, the time I spent interviewing Brandy was really enlightening, hilarious and genuine. We spent time talking about her growth as a person and an entertainer.   I even got a kick when she complimented my voice; calling it “sexy.” Thanks Brandy! I believe this is something her fans will enjoy as they get to read how much she has grown and has hit a confident stride and has OWNED it!

As I mentioned a while back, Monarch is no longer on newsstands, but you can subscribe to receive either the print edition or digital version. A subscription for the print edition is $11.88 (a year) and for the digital $2.00 (a year). If there is a link to the Brandy story to share, I will, but I do implore you to support a wonderful magazine!

As I mentioned in my previous entry, this issue not only includes my story on Brandy, but my articles on fitness guru Dolvett Quince and AIDS/HIV awareness activist Cookie Johnson, wife of NBA great Earvin “Magic” Johnson. Those two stories are already on Monarch’s website and links to each are within my previous entry. I also believe this issue includes my Q&A or brief write up on actress Rochelle Aytes. She played Lisa, the fiancee’ to Blair Underwood’s character, in Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Family Reunion.

Today is Good Friday and oh what joy it is to kick off the weekend with the release of my cover story. As the rest of the weekend goes on, I will also celebrate my little Aries Princess’ sixth birthday! I can’t believe my Snickerdoodle is six!!!! And what better way to celebrate her birthday at this year’s White House Easter Egg Roll!!!!!!! Yes! After vying for tickets for four years and the looming threat of shutting down due to sequestration, I scored tickets to the Easter Egg Roll and it looks like it will go on as planned…even as sequestration is causing a lot of financial stress among federal government agencies.

As I go off to frolic in the weekend sun, be sure to take a moment to subscribe to Monarch and not only read my articles, but explore other quality content.
