Remember a year ago when I expressed a nervous concern about Tyler Perry being picked to play the suave detective Alex Cross, a creation of fiction and thriller masterminding author James Patterson? In case you didn’t read or may skip the hyperlink above altogether, my concern wasn’t about Perry’s skills or harsh criticism of his own work as a filmmaker. Being a hardcore James Patterson fan, I’m in tune to the kind of character Patterson created when he made Alex Cross. I already disappointed when earlier film(s) based on Patterson’s fictional character placed Morgan Freeman as Cross. It felt unnatural, especially as he didn’t seem to fit the age range that Patterson set for Cross. So I wondered, but I wasn’t the only one as others in my writing circle and other die hard Patterson and Cross fans wondered if this was the right pick!
Well we no longer have to worry. We can satisfy our curiosity (just a taste) as a trailer for the new Alex Cross movie was released late last night. Entertainment and movie industry site Screen Rant shared the trailer as it shows Perry in stellar action moves. The buzz phrase “he looks very convincing” as folks take a moment to inhale the bravado Perry seems to be delivering. What’s irie is the tone of his voice.. the calm and menacing… cold calculating detective tone that I envisioned for Cross… PERRY HAS IT!!!!
Ok, maybe casting didn’t have their wires CROSSED. Perhaps this was designed for Perry and push further growth in his work! I’m excited for him! What say you?
