Hello Readers,
If you live or are going to be in nation’s capital this weekend, you would want to visit Anacostia’s historic district for a FREE event. Children’s author Dr. Courtney Davis is hosting the East of the River Read In on Saturday, May 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the ARCH Training Center (1231 Good Hope Road SE, Wash, DC). The Read In is a family event with readings from fellow authors Yaba Baker, Sabrina Carter, Chenniah Patrick, Bulsby “Buzz” Duncan and Donna and Aliyah Saunders. Also, to the delight of fellow area bookworms, Sankofa video and books will be setting up a pop up shop at the event.
Davis is the author of A is for Anacostia; a story that features the adventures of a group of children as they explore and learn about their Anacostia neighborhood. They play in a pool, float on pancakes and even dream about climbing the historic Curtis Brothers’ chair that is a landmark in the community. A Chicago native, Davis has made Anacostia her home and is dedicated in her work with children that has spanned for over 15 years. She was featured in the Washington Post as one of the young professionals that is making Anacostia their home during an exciting and pivotal time as economic development is helping the community to bloom.
Check out Davis and the other authors at the Read In and when it’s over stop by one of the local cafes or at least Mama’s Kitchen for a slice of pizza.
